Woodworking

Woodworking and my life:

I made my first bow from a yew tree that grew in the corner of the yard when I was around 8 or 9.  I think back then I liked the idea of woodwork, but of course had no idea what I was doing.  I would frequently bring a pocket knife on camping trips, thinking this would be the time to get good at whittling or find a good piece of wood to make something really cool with.  Not often having the time or patience, nothing really ever came to fruition.  I made a couple more bows over the years, and briefly got into archery.

Fast foward to June 2019 - my hunt for jobs needed to continue so I found a job at Home Depot in the mean time.  To my surprise, the lumber department needed the most help ("who doesn't like trees?", I thought, not thinking about all the hard work), and I was instantly hired as a lumber associate, after vowing to learn, apply myself and take responsibility as an adult.  I learned a lot as an associate but also found myself taking a great, likely influenced by other people's projects, in woodworking myself.  I had a crazy idea to make a wooden labyrinth, inspired by a single article that started it all.  I have since made at least 5 other labyrinths.

There have been various projects, most of which have involved the use a of lathe, including pens, instruments, wooden labyrinths, tables, chess boards and pieces, bee boxes, coasters, toilet paper holders, and tops.
